Debate Trophies

Triangular trophies made of 3 different woods from 3 different continents - European ash, American walnut and African wenge.

Build Progress

Milling Stock

Did the standard process of gluing material together to get its thickness to around 50mm, then used the jointer, planer and tablesaw to cut it to size.

Joinery Elements

Used the miter saw to cut the ends of the elements to 30 degrees. After that used the table saw to cut a mortise on one end, tenon on the other, allowing the elements to be interlocked with the classic mortise & tenon joint.

Finishing Debate trophies

Finished the trophies by sanding with sandpaper ranging from 80 to 180 grit. Although the joints were precise enough to be interlocked without any other methods, I still opted to add a bit of wood glue between the joints just to ensure this joint will never come apart. Had Gravex (https://gravex.ee) engrave the trophies and then oiled them using Osmo.
